It is only about an hour and 45 minutes outside of Austin, and is well worth the drive! I have so many couples who want to do their sessions at this state park. I thought it would be helpful to give some tips when planning an engagement or couple’s session at Enchanted Rock! These photos were from my most recent session from there, and I’m so excited to show them off. It was a hot, summer day, but Tiffany and Ryan absolutely killed their session!
Enchanted Rock is a pretty steep climb. Typically it’s not the easiest hike with sandals, heels, or dress shoes. You want something with a little traction like sneakers or Chacos (my personal favorite). And of course, hydration is super important when hiking! A bag is really easy to take along and helps so much.
Really, most couples I work with only bring one outfit to their Enchanted rock engagement sessions. The reason being there is no place to change at the top! Tiffany and Ryan brought two outfits, but only wore one at the bottom. They changed once we finished with our shots at the bottom of the hike, and stuck with their second outfit for the rest of the shoot!
The front desk at Enchanted Rock is super helpful. You just have to let them know you’re planning to bring a professional photographer, and they will require you to pay for a permit. It’s only $25 and it helps the parks a lot!
The weather conditions are always way more extreme at Enchanted Rock because there is nothing blocking you. There are no trees to give you shade from the sun or rocks and cliffs to block the wind. For this particular session, the wind was so extreme. It was helpful that Tiffany’s dress was more straight and she didn’t have to cover herself up the whole time. A hair-tie also came in handy!
Enchanted Rock really is such a special landmark. You can’t see these hill country views anywhere else, and it is so amazing! Don’t be so focused on how you look or what you’re wearing. Just be with your partner and enjoy the beautiful place!
