Winter Milwaukee Wedding | Abby + Justin

This winter Milwaukee wedding was for sure one for the books.

It was my very first time ever in Wisconsin, let alone shooting a downtown Milwaukee wedding! I met Abby and Justin in Austin for their engagement session, and we hit it off immediately. These two are so in love, so easy to hang out with, and obviously just a dang cute couple (see evidence below). The location wasn’t really set for their wedding until about two months prior to the actual date. Can you believe that?! Abby is a wizard at planning gorgeous weddings very quickly, haha! No matter where the location was, I knew I wanted to be there for these two.

Even though it was my very first time in Milwaukee, I wasn’t concerned AT ALL.

I know some couples choose to get their wedding photographer based on whether or not they’ve shot at their actual venue (maybe even state) of their wedding. But, honestly, I don’t think that should be a huge priority when choosing your photographer. Actually, most of the time I like my work even more when it was my first time ever in that specific location. I’m able to rely on how that place made me feel the very first time I’m there! I think that really allows me to be in touch with the place and get creative. Sometimes when photographers shoot in the same place over and over, they get a little stuck in the normal. It’s hard to see the surroundings new in that day, rather than all the other days they’ve shot there before.

So, keep in mind the things that are really important when you’re looking for a photographer. Do you like the way they see their surroundings, and capture their subjects? Does their work tug something at you, make you feel something? That’s what really matters! Not whether or not they’ve shot at your venue! (or have been to the city before, LOL).

Justin and Abby got married in a small, quaint church in Milwaukee.

Abby was getting ready with a few select family members down in the basement. I loved the challenge of shooting getting ready photos in a place that wasn’t necessarily meant for it. It didn’t have the bright, ideal lighting and their were a lot of church supplies all around. However, these are some of my favorite getting ready pictures, because once again, it allowed me to be creative!

Finally, the ceremony started, and it was so sweet. Both Abby and Justin let tears slip out as she walked down the aisle. The ceremony was filled with purpose and meaning, as they said their vows to each other and took communion.

Then, we were off to shoot some of their wedding photos at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

After the ceremony, some family portraits, and a few bride and groom pictures at the church, we head off to the Milwaukee Art Museum to take the rest of their bride and groom photos. We could not have planned the timing any better. We arrived at just the right light, and I loved the modern architecture of the art museum. It was STUNNING. We had so much fun, even as the temperature dropped drastically during the time we were out there (idk maybe that’s just my Texas self talking). The sun was glazing over the downtown buildings and creating the most breathtaking shadows off of the architectural ceilings. I definitely won’t forget this.

It was then time to celebrate!

Dinner and dancing followed at the Milwaukee Yacht Club! Justin and Abby visited all the family and friends that made it out there, and Justin was eventually dragged to the dance floor. They had a live band and an open bar, so it was obviously a party. I’m seriously so honored to have captured this celebration for Justin and Abby! So grateful that they trusted me enough to fly me out there, pay for a hotel and vehicle for me to shoot their wedding in a place I’ve never been. I know that takes SO much trust, and I’m beyond grateful!

If you are getting married, it doesn’t matter WHERE, I want to be there and capture it all for you! So let’s chat!!
