This adventurous LGBT engagement shoot in Yosemite National Park was one of the best moments in my photography career. This was my first National Park to visit EVER (because no matter what the government says, I am NOT counting Hot Springs, AR). It was also my first time in California, and I absolutely fell in love with that state. I love the outdoors, I crave to see more mountainous views and waterfalls and crazy rock formations. I think about it constantly, and I was so happy to make it happen. I’ll be back next month, and I CANNOT freaking wait. It was early April, so the high views of Glacier Point Road and Taft Point were closed, so we really just got to explore Yosemite Valley. I seriously have never felt smaller than walking through these meadows and driving through the valley, looking up all the way to the giant, famous mountains that surrounded me.
The best part about this experience was photographing these two. Aaron and Oscar were probably the sweetest and kindest guys I have ever met. They met through Tinder (hello, Tinderella couples out there!) and have a goal to visit all of the national parks in the US. They’re off to an amazing start so far. They got engaged in a national park and they’re getting married in one, too! It was so great to do a session with an amazing couple that loves the outdoors as much as I do (probably more because of Aaron’s love for biology that I just don’t have LOL). They started off the session a little shy, and Aaron explained that they just aren’t used to public displays of affection. When living in conservative areas and the feeling of judgment all around you, you learn to keep your relationship private, I suppose. This made me so sad, but that much more determined to create a comfortable space for them. They’re kind, smart, gentle, and just super freaking cute. When I delivered them their full gallery, Aaron responded with, “The photos are beautiful! They are even more breathtaking than this week’s episode of Game of Thrones!” — I’m sorry, but if you watched this week’s episode of GoT, then you know this is just the best compliment I have EVER received.
Aaron and Oscar, I’m so glad we found each other through Instagram. It was such an honor meeting you and photographing your love! I can’t wait to hang out with you guys again some day soon!!
If you are wanting to make the most of your engagement session, and go somewhere freaking EPIC like Yosemite National Park or the millions of other amazing national parks, let’s chat! I would love to explore and adventure with you two!
